I thought you might be interested in reading the attached article by Susan Lake entitled, "4-term Mayor a Team Player". This article appeared in the Star Ledger on Sunday, March 29, 2009 and focuses on the background, career and partnerships of Doug Steinhardt as the Mayor of Lopatcong Township, NJ, Chairman of the Warren County Republican Committee and named Partner at Florio, Perrucci, Steinhardt and Fader.

4-TERM MAYOR
A TEAM PLAYER

By: Susan Lake

DOUGLAS J. STEINHARDT
40, Lopatcong Township

Many hats

Some call Steinhardt Mr. Chairman while others will refer to him as their attorney-at-law. But most know him best as being the only mayor to serve Lopatcong Township for four terms. He also serves as Warren County's GOP chairman.

Background

Born and raised in Belvidere, Steinhardt said he has fond memories of growing up in town, and those memories encouraged him to run for office.

He graduated from Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pa. with a history degree. He also was a member of NCAA Division III football team at Gettysburg.

"It was the kind of mentality that I had during my football years that I carried over to my current work ethic. I am quite aggressive," said Steinhardt, who also graduated from Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg, Pa. He also served as an associate editor of the Law Review from 1993 to 1994.

A Prospering Career

He worked, for a year, as a clerk for Judge William R. Albrecht at the Warren County Court House in Belvidere. For 10 years, he operated Joseph W. and Douglas J. Steinhardt law offices in Belvidere. In the midst of his career, Steinhardt ran for mayor and won. Five years later, by 2005, he was on board at Florio, Perrucci, Steinhardt & Fader, LLC in Phillipsburg and had begun serving as chairman of the Warren County Republican Committee.

Partnership

As mayor, Steinhardt says he truly enjoys his close relationship with the council and his work with labor unions, department heads and other elected and appointed officials. Steinhardt's people skills have paid off in other avenues of his work. As GOP chairman, an increase in executive committee membership was one of his achievements.

"It has always been my goal to make sure that every faction (of the committee) had a seat at the table. It's all about bringing people together and making sure that everyone has a chance to voice their concerns," Steinhardt said. "I, my self, arrived in politics new to the game. But, I'm glad I did.

"Over the years I met more and more people and learned a great deal about the issues our community and government face on a daily basis. To meet each challenge is a team effort."

Family

Wife, Trudy, and children Douglas, Jr., 5, and Tia, 10.
