Governor
Jim Florio to Discuss 'Life as a Democrat' at The College of New Jersey
Forum
October 30,
2006 - Governor James J. Florio will present his view of what it means to be a
Democrat at a College of New Jersey forum on October 31.
Governor
Florio will be joined by New Jersey State Senator Leonard Lance (District 23,
which includes all of Warren County and most of Hunterdon County) who will
present his view of life as a Republican.
"Many of today's college
students are still forming their political ideals. Between my and the Senator's
extensive service to the state as elected officials, we will hopefully impart
to these young people the information and insight into the philosophies of the
two dominant political parties in the country," said Governor Florio.
The forum will be part of the First Seminar Class for Freshman as part
of the College of New Jersey's Ethics and Government course. The course is
taught by Douglas Forrester, the Republican nominee for New Jersey Governor in
2005. The forum will meet at 6 p.m. in Travers Hall.
Governor Florio
served as a three-term member of the New Jersey General Assembly (1970-75)
before he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives (1975-90) where he
served eight terms. He was elected Governor of New Jersey in 1990 and, as
governor, was appointed as the nation's first environmental prosecutor, singing
into law many innovative environmental statues including the Clean Water
Enforcement Act, the Pollution Prevention Act and the Industrial Site Recovery
Act.
Governor Florio received his undergraduate degree, magna cum
laude, from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) and his Juris
Doctorate from Rutgers University School of Law. He was one of the founding
members of Florio Perrucci Steinhardt & Fader, L.L.C. along with Michael J.
Perrucci who is one of the Mid-Atlantic region's leading litigators. Douglas J.
Steinhardt joined the firm as a named partner in August 2005, and Paul T.
Fader, former Chief Counsel to New Jersey Governor Richard Codey, joined as a
named partner in January 2006. Offices are located in Phillipsburg and Rochelle
Park, N.J.; New York City and Bethlehem, Pa. For further information on the
